Grooveshark Shut Down | Downloaded Spotify

Spotify attemped to access my computer, but Windows Firewall blocked them.
Hackers use open ports, which are holes in a firewall.
If Windows Firewall had not blocked Spotify, or if I made a mistake and allowed Spotify access, I would have enabled hacking.
The following might be helpful.

Note the path at the top; Control Panel/System and Security/Windows Firewall/ Allowed Programs
Spotify .exe is not checked
Windows Firewall blocked them
Here's an enlarged view of the same thing:

If programs can access your computer, they can allow others to see what's on your computer. They can use your computer to send spam, or whatever they wish, while it's connected to the internet.

  1. Spotify used to use a peer-to-peer network of its customers machines to help stream music. You would download songs from their servers or from another customer's computer. Those songs are stored on your machine in an encrypted form. If someone else is trying to stream one of the songs you have and Spotify's servers are busy, your machine will serve that file.

They were supposed to have shutdown that part of their service last year as their server capacity had grown to be able to serve all clients directly.

The open port is a vulnerability, but it probably is not a very big one otherwise you would have heard howls from the tech press.

    1. Thank you JayB. I'm leaning toward using YouTube for my music. I couldn't find some songs by the artist I was looking for, on Spotify.
